Next club day: 18 August – Kohi Point, Steve Reid.
Last Sunday saw 12 yakkers turn up nice and early for our club day off the car park next to Murphys Motor camp. It was good to see Western Bay clubbies turn up as well as Matata is closer for them than more eastern beaches. Thomas was organising the day and it went of splendidly with everybody catching snapper, the odd kahawai and even a couple of decent terakihi. Blair Cameron took out the prizes for gurnard and biggest snapper not far off 2 kg mark. Stace Lewer biggest kahawai, and Steve Reid for his 1.2kg tarakiki. Conditions of the briny were mint, hardly any wind and flat to glassy sea. There was a reasonable current running west to east so a little bit of extra weight was needed to keep your rig on or near the bottom.
Thomas generously put on a BBQ with local made sausages, onion, bread and a beer as well which was all well received.
